Renewable Energy: As American as Apple Pie

Apple pie on a kitchen table

Most Americans support moving away from carbon emitting fossil fuels and switching to clean energy. In fact, according to a Pew Research report in 2017, “65% of Americans give priority to developing alternative energy sources, compared with 27% who would emphasize expanded production of fossil fuel sources.”

This is likely why the vast majority of United States citizens support upholding the Paris Climate agreement. Hundreds of governors, mayors, and business leaders have vowed to uphold the Paris agreement, which also seems to represent the groundswell of sentiment among Americans.

Americans from All Backgrounds Want Clean Energy

Reasons for that support certainly vary. Some support clean energy because they are worried about global warming and climate change. Others want clean energy because they strive to become more energy self-sufficient as communities and as a country. What matters most is statistics such as this one, which shows Americans desire for clean energy options: nine out of ten Americans strongly favor expanding the field of solar energy. Consensus on this level reflects a staggering statement of American willpower and spirit.

Americans Are Taking Climate Action

States, cities, and communities are seeing the irrefutable evidence of global warming first hand, through experiences like rises in sea levels on their coasts, to increased detrimental impact from weather events. The benefits of clean energy—including thousands fewer premature deaths—are something that everyone can get behind. No one wants more lung ailments, more coastal flooding, or more devastating storms.

The adoption of renewable energy is happening everywhere, and in unlikely places. A particularly interesting example took place in Kentucky, a traditional coal state: a coal museum there built by miners switched to renewable energy for budgetary reasons.

So, Americans are beginning to act, enacting energy efficiency measures and building up financial and legal support for renewable energy. And, across the United States, communities are beginning to benefit from the economic impact of clean energy innovations, including in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio. In these areas, economies are stronger and energy security safer because of renewables like solar and wind.

Solar and Wind Are Sustainable Energy Sources

Fossil fuels are a finite resource—there is only so much of them and they’re simply not a sustainable resource. Whether the planet runs out of accessible, usable fossil fuels in fifty years or in a hundred years, eventually fossil fuels will not be an option simply due to resource depletion.

Solar and wind on the other hand, are eternally available sources of energy. With new developments in related technologies that will make solar and wind even more available, like battery storage and electrical grid enhancements, our ability to harness and manage these natural resources will create a hopeful future that is not dependent on dirtier energy sources like natural gas or petroleum. Each day, we’re getting closer and closer to a fossil-free world. As recent as 2017, for the first time generating solar and wind power became less expensive than generating electricity from fossil fuels. That’s a huge win for renewables, putting the planet on track for a clean future.

The Future is a Renewable One

A nation of pioneers and innovators, the United States has always looked to the future. Increasingly, Americans agree that the future lies in clean, renewable energy. It’s safe, clean, and healthier for people and the planet, and allows America’s independent spirit to continue unchecked.

We at CleanChoice Energy are committed to offering American citizens energy choice, answering the demand, and making clean energy accessible to all. Why? Because renewable energy is as American as apple pie.

Learn how you can easily switch to 100% pollution-free, clean energy sourced from wind and solar today.
