How does Clean Energy Option upgrade my home to clean energy? As a subscriber, the energy your home uses will be offset with wind and/or solar energy through the purchase of renewable energy certificates ("RECs") We purchase and retire RECs on your behalf based on your monthly electricity use. You'll continue to receive electricity service from your utility, and CleanChoice Energy's charges are in addition to your utility bill. Electricity (from your utility) + RECs (through CleanChoice Energy) = clean energy!

Do I need to install anything or notify my landlord or utility? Nope! There is nothing to install, and no change to your electric service. When you sign up, we work behind the scenes to ensure your home electricity use is offset with clean energy from wind and solar farms.

Will this decrease my electricity bill over time? No; Clean Energy Option is in addition to your electricity bill. It is a fixed, affordable way to offset your home’s electricity use – which is likely your biggest contributor to your carbon footprint – with clean energy.

Are there any additional fees or setups required? None. There is nothing to set up and you will only pay your monthly flat-rate fee.

After I sign up, when does the program start? Immediately! If you choose to sync your utility account, your first payment for clean energy will  be charged at the time of your next electric utility statement.  You will not pay anything until that point. If you choose to estimate your energy usage, your first  Clean Energy Option subscription payment will be charged 30 days after you sign up.
