WASHINGTON, D.C., Aug. 9, 2016 — CleanChoice Energy, a renewable energy company providing 100 percent clean electricity to retail power customers across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Midwest, today announced it has donated over $1 million to environmental and social impact organizations.

CleanChoice Energy has steadily increased its total donations to charitable groups and partner organizations since inception in 2013, passing the $1 million milestone this month and nearly doubling total donations since early 2015.

Of the total amount, more than $543,000 has been donated in support of environmental/clean energy advocacy and education while nearly $523,000 has been donated in support of social impact and multi-issue organizations benefiting our planet and advancing equality, peace, justice, and equal opportunity.

“CleanChoice Energy’s corporate giving has educated consumers about climate change, directly funded environmental projects, and expanded access to renewable energy,” said Tom Matzzie, Founder and CEO of CleanChoice Energy. “Our mission since day one has been making clean energy available for everyone and our charitable giving helps create a world with less pollution and cleaner electricity.”

CleanChoice Energy’s charitable giving has powered it to the highest level of B Corp certification, with a company score 50 percent higher than the required score for B Corp certified companies. The company is also helping expand clean energy access as a founding Leadership member of the Coalition for Community Solar Access.

In addition to creating a positive impact on social issues, CleanChoice Energy makes it easy for customers to create environmental impacts. On average, each household that switches to CleanChoice Energy avoids 18,876 pounds of carbon pollution per year. The company’s customers have kept more than 1.71 billion pounds of carbon dioxide out of the air, equivalent to preventing 827 million pounds of coal from being burned, and has had an environmental impact equivalent to preserving 734,000 acres of forest.

CleanChoice Energy is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and has quickly grown to become the fourth-largest direct-to-consumer renewable retail energy provider in the United States, expanding to eight states and the District of Columbia through campaign-based micro-targeting.
