Solar Farm Spotlight: Bluebird
Aug 28, 2020
Each month, we spotlight one of the solar projects in our Community Solar program. Community Solar is a new way to receive some of the financial benefits of solar energy—without the hassle of installing your own solar panels. You can learn more about what Community Solar is in this blog post.
The solar gardens in our Community Solar program are groups of solar panels located in a field or on a rooftop that leverage the power of the sun to produce renewable energy. Solar gardens typically feed into the larger electricity grid and help to shift the fuel mix to clean, renewable sources—while helping customers save money on their electric bills!
This month’s featured solar project is Bluebird Community Solar Gardens.
Bluebird is a portfolio of 15 community solar gardens located in towns across the state of Minnesota—from Osakis to St. Cloud, to Eagle Lake and La Crescent.
Bluebird Community Solar Gardens serve residential customers within the Xcel utility service area in Minnesota. Each Bluebird customer is assigned to one of the 15 gardens within the portfolio, based on their location. Bluebird customers receive up to 5% savings on their solar bill credits!*
Interconnection (when the solar garden starts generating power):
Most solar gardens in the Bluebird project have already interconnected. The rest will interconnect later this year!
Capacity (how much solar energy the solar garden can generate):
Once all of the solar gardens are completed, Bluebird Community Solar Gardens will have the capacity to generate 36,365,771 kWh of clean solar energy each year. That’s the equivalent of:¹
5,555 cars taken off the road for one year; or
28,331,157 pounds of coal not burned; or
425,154 tree seedlings grown for 10 years!
