Meet Our Solar Farms

  • Sep 17, 2025

Over the last few years, we’ve embarked on an exciting new journey building solar farms, in an effort to give communities we operate in a connection to locally generated solar.

CleanChoice Energy is the first company in the U.S. that both owns solar farms and supplies only 100% clean energy to consumers—and we are so excited to finally introduce some of our solar farms!

Today (as of September 2025), we have one solar farm online and generating energy (Blairs Valley in South Central Pennsylvania), three solar farms beginning construction soon (Kylertown in Central Pennsylvania, Dolan in Upstate New York, and Hawthorn in Upstate New York), and several more solar farms in our pipeline. We are working to expand our footprint across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions and bring more clean energy onto the grid.

Learn more about the solar farms you’re supporting as a CleanChoice customer and how we’re supporting local communities:

1. Blairs Valley Solar Farm

Location: Franklin County, PA

Status as of September 2025: Online and generating energy

Nestled in the beautiful mountains of South Central Pennsylvania, the Blairs Valley Solar Farm is CleanChoice Energy’s first ever solar farm.

This 26.15-megawatt solar array sits on 168 acres in Franklin County, just over the Maryland border and not far from historic downtown Mercersburg, PA, and Whitetail Mountain ski resort.

Construction began in January 2024, and the solar farm first “turned on” and interconnected to the PJM electric grid (which supplies energy to utilities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio, Illinois, and other states in the region) in December 2024.

Built with sophisticated design standards in mind, Blairs Valley was designed using flex tracking technology—which means that the more than 20,000 bifacial solar panels follow the cycle of the sun throughout the day to optimize the amount of sunlight captured. It will produce enough power to supply the equivalent of 4,500 homes with renewable energy each year!

Once the solar array is removed at the end of its useful lifecycle, the landowners will be able to return to farming the 168 acres, thanks to a robust decommissioning agreement with the local municipality.

CleanChoice is deeply committed to taking care of the land, ecosystems, biodiversity, and wildlife in and around our solar farms. During the development of our Blairs Valley Solar Farm, we:

  • Partnered with a Pennsylvania-based seed supplier to develop a solar farm seed mix that welcomes pollinators

  • Incorporated wildlife-friendly fencing to allow free movement of wildlife through the space

  • Preserved natural wetlands through setbacks in the project design

CleanChoice also launched a new scholarship program to support students in the communities near our solar farms. During the first 4 years of operation for each of our solar projects, we will award a $5,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from the local school district. In June 2025, we awarded our first ever scholarship to a senior at James Buchanan High School (as well as a student near our Kylertown Solar Farm). Read more about our scholarship and our two inaugural winners here.

2. Kylertown Solar Farm

Location: Clearfield County, PA

Status as of September 2025: Construction beginning soon

Kylertown will be our second fully owned and operated solar farm. The site is located on a picturesque, 150-acre plot of land in Central Pennsylvania. It’s located right in the center of the state, about 45 minutes from State College.

Construction will recommence in the spring of 2026, and it’s scheduled to interconnect to the PJM Grid in late 2026. It will be a 29.42 megawatt solar array and will produce enough power to supply the equivalent of 5,600 homes with renewable energy each year!

This solar project will offer some unique long-term commitments to the community, including our fire safety training commitment to the local fire department, support for native pollinator habitats through intentional landscaping design and Pennsylvania seed mixes, and our scholarship for local seniors at West Branch High School.

  • Capacity: 29.42 megawatts

  • Size: 150 acres

  • Number of panels: 48,000+ panels

  • Number of homes it will have the capacity to power: Approximately 5,600 homes

  • Interconnection: Planned for late 2026

3. Hawthorn Solar Farm

Location: Rensselaer County, NY

Status as of September 2025: Construction beginning soon

Representing Upstate New York, our Hawthorn Solar Farm will be located about an hour northeast of Albany in Rensselaer County. The site is also less than an hour away from our Dolan Solar Farm in Washington County!

Construction is expected to begin during the fall of 2025, and the farm is estimated to interconnect to National Grid in late 2026. The solar farm will sit on 117 acres and will have a capacity of 27.1 megawatts, and it will produce enough power to supply the equivalent of 5,100 homes with renewable energy each year!

Hawthorn, along with the Dolan Solar Farm in Washington County, was selected by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as part of its latest round of large-scale renewable energy contract awards. Dolan and Hawthorn are two of only 26 projects selected statewide, highlighting their strategic importance to achieving New York’s goal of 70% clean electricity by 2030.

In addition to our sustainable design features and our scholarship for local graduating seniors—both of which we implement at all of our solar farms—we also donated $70,000 to the Hoosick Fire District in Rensselaer County to reinforce our commitment to the local communities near our solar farms.

4. Dolan Solar Farm

Location: Washington County, NY

Status as of September 2025: Construction beginning soon

Another Upstate New York solar farm, Dolan will be located in Washington County, near Lake George and about an hour north of Albany. It will also be less than an hour away from our Hawthorn Solar Farm in Rensselaer County!

Construction is expected to begin during the fall of 2025, and the farm is estimated to interconnect to National Grid in late 2026. The solar farm will sit on 133 acres and will have a capacity of 27.1 megawatts, and it will produce enough power to supply the equivalent of 5,500 homes with renewable energy each year!
